Who would have thought it, when Velobants announced they wanted to try and break the UK record for the largest all-women cyclocross race it seemed like an almost impossible task, how wrong were we?
Last weekend 165 women (juniors, seniors and vets) lined up at the site of the 2014 CX World Cup race in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes. It was truly amazing, and it wasn’t only the womens’ field that was large, big fields in both the Mens Vet40s and 50s, plus a large list of youth riders, a massive total of 857 riders in total.
One of the things that were so fantastic on the day was the wonderful mix of seasoned CX pros mingling with complete novices, so some which had never ridden a cyclocross bike, let alone competed in a CX race; even some of the league regulars were buzzing with a large number of female racers.
